Our family, Beverly, Susan, and Kim created Queen Bea Studio in the year 2000 in response to Susan's diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. We joined our creative energies to set a positive goal we could all could work towards. Our love of travel, shopping, sewing, and design lead us to create our custom made handbags. Our native Florida provided additional inspiration with its lure of sun, fun, sand, and sea! Little did we know that this "diversion" would have such an impact on women of all ages and that our clients would have to carry our business cards, because women constantly stopped them to ask, "Where did you get that bag!"
Our search for a "Florida Basket" led us to beautiful Thailand; these baskets are "Green" and woven from an invasive water plant that chokes the rivers and streams of the Thai countryside. Over the years we have helped to develop this industry and have forged a close relationship with the group of women weavers who make our baskets. These women have taken this opportunity to improve their weaving skills and increase their financial independence without leaving their communities. Through our Thai contacts we have interacted with the Minister of Trade who encourages and supports our work within his country. Please be aware that when you purchase a Queen BEA Basket you are promoting more than a lovely fashion statement.
We have recently been creating with canvas. The designs are unique and inspired by our yearning for a distinct looking canvas tote suitable for our boating or beaching adventures! The GG and Cole bags are simple yet stylish and we love them! In addition, they are made in the USA!
Lastly, our mother, Beverly is the true "Queen Bea". She has always been a fashion purist who preferred cashmere to wool and our tireless cheerleader. She is our company's namesake and our favorite model! The photos you see here on our website were taken of her in 1945 when she was a mere 17 years old! It is she who is seen in our logo, ever in vogue, sporting her turban and fashionable swimwear on our beautiful Florida beach. She is now a bit sun shy but basks instead in our success!
Happy 81st birthday, Mom!
